Overview
Renewable Energy Certificates
Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) are proof of electricity generation through renewable resources such as solar, wind, hydro, or biomass. RECs represent one megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity generated through renewable resources and fed into the grid.
Organisations can use RECs to prove their use of renewable resources even if they cannot produce renewable resources on-site. RECs help organisations achieve their corporate carbon accounting and renewable energy objectives:
- Offset electricity consumption with renewable energy production
- Contribute to the development of new renewable energy projects
- Achieve ESG, sustainability, and carbon footprint reduction objectives
- Comply with voluntary or regulatory renewable energy mandates
Renewable Energy Certificates are recognised under various international sustainability initiatives
